Parish Priests message for the Christ the King Parish Day 2022
CHRIST THE KING PARISH DAY
THE FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING – NOVEMBER 20, 2022
This year, our Parish celebrates its Ninety-Second Anniversary, leaving us only eight years to the Centenary Anniversary.
The Platinum Jubilee was celebrated in 2005 with the construction of The Platinum Building to commemorate Seventy-Five Years. Seventeen years after The Platinum Jubilee, we are looking forward to the completion of The New Priests’ Residence and Offices and a Brand New Church!
As time is approaching, to celebrate The Centenary of this Parish, we definitely shall have both a new Church and a new Priests’ Residence at the Centre of The Capital City – of Kampala. The Church is in the neighbourhood of important Civil Administration Offices like The Kampala Capital City Authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Audit and The Ministry of Finance, The Parliament et cetera, and we thank The Lord who has blessed us as a Community to be able to construct these new structures.
As The Parish Priest, I feel greatly indebted to you all, The Community of Christ The King, for your support, patience and continuous contributions to this big project. Thank you so much and be blessed abundantly!
It was our hope that the work was going to be done in a brief period of one year and nine months, but it has taken more than six years. You have endured a lot. The present space for prayers is narrow and not very conducive to prayer but you have been brave. Thank you so much and God bless you always. The Contractor is doing the finishes but because finishes require precision and care, he may not be able to finish the work by the end of November 2022 as expected in the contract. It is very unlikely, that we can use it on Christmas, but God willing, we should be there by Easter time.
We thank you for your active participation in our Fundraising Drive which took place on 28th July 2022 @ Protea Hotel Marriot- Kololo where we raised above 200 Million in cash and pledges, most of the pledges have so far been honoured.
The Parliament Catholic Chaplaincy also assisted in raising funds for the completion of our Church amounting to 100 Million shillings in cash and pledges.
Your continued financial support is very crucial for a good conclusion of this Project! So far, we have paid Ush. 12,174,351,160= (Twelve Billion, One Hundred Seventy Four Million, Three Hundred Fifty-One Thousand, One Hundred Sixty) only. You are deeply, deeply appreciated!
We continue to appeal to your generosity to raise the remaining funds for total completion which includes the finishes, particularly windows and painting which may go up to 2 Billion and above.
Apart from the delay in the construction of Our Church, the COVID-19 pandemic has had very devastating effects on us all, both on the individual level and on the community at large, for almost two years. The lockdown affected people’s incomes and in some cases, mental health. A number of our people succumbed to the pandemic and many people lost their jobs. Despite the meagre incomes, you have gone ahead to support The Church financially. What a committed Community!
We had expected to celebrate this day with our Archbishop but he has gone to The Archdiocese of Gulu for the Beatification of Fr. Dr Ambrosoli Giuseppe.
May Christ The King reign in our hearts and in our City – Kampala and may He save us from Ebola.
Despite all the challenges in our lives, “Do not be afraid, Rise, Pick up your Mat and Walk”
